The importance of clean candles

Updated: Jul 11

All of our candles and melts are made with coconut-soy wax, a plant-based wax made from coconuts and the oil of soybeans. Once harvested, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated.

The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it solid at room temperature.

Some of the benefits of coconut-soy wax/candles include:

  • eco-friendly

  • renewable

  • American grown

  • sustainable

  • burns longer and cleaner

  • superior heat throw

If you've ever experienced headaches from candle-burning, chances are they're derived from the type of wax used in the candle. Candles marketed and sold as "soy blend" candles do in fact contain soy, but also contain paraffin, a petroleum byproduct—which releases carcinogenic soot when burned. They often times produce black smoke off the wick and cause the jars to turn black.

Always know what's in the candles you're burning inside your home.
